What is National Overseas Scholarship Scheme?

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, invites online applications for the National Overseas Scholarship Scheme (NOS) from ST candidates for the selection year 2025-26. The scholarship is awarded to students selected for pursuing higher studies abroad at the Masters level, Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral Research programmes. Number of slots for Scholarship is 20. Interested Candidates may apply online through the NOS Portal. The portal will remain open from 15th May 2025 to 15th July 2025 for submission of applications.

Eligibility of National Overseas Scholarship Scheme

Candidates applying for the National Overseas Scholarship Should fulfill the requirements given below:

Educational Qualification:
** For Post-Doctoral: 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Master’s Degree and Ph.D. Preference would be given to the experienced candidates, especially to those who are on lien with their existing post and employer.
** PhD: 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Master’s Degree. Preference would be given to the experienced candidates, especially to those who are on lien with their existing post and employer.
** For Master’s Degree: 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Bachelor’s Degree. Preference would be given to the experienced candidates, especially to those who are on lien with their existing post and employer.

Age:
The age of candidate should not be more than 35 years as on 1st July, 2020.

Income Ceiling:
The total family income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 6,00,000/- (excluding such allowances as are not treated as part of total income for the purpose of Income Tax) as certified by the employer.

Children Criteria:
Only one child from the same parent can get the benefit of the Scholarship.

How To Apply For National Overseas Scholarship Scheme?

A student applying for fellowship for the first time need to “Register” on the National Overseas Portal as a fresh applicant by providing accurate and authenticated information in the “Student Registration Form”. After successful login, a text message will be sent to the registered e-mail confirming registration.

Documents Required For National Overseas Scholarship Scheme

The following documents are required to be uploaded for a Fresh Application under the National Overseas Scholarship:
a) DOB Certificate (10th/matriculation certificate/ Birth Certificate, no other certificate is admissible)
b) ST Certificate (Spelling of community Name (Hindi/English) in ST Certificate must be as per latest Gazette notification of Govt. of India)
c) PVTG Certificate
d) Profile Photo (Size: – 50 KB-100KB)
e) Annual Family Income Certificate. In case father is alive but father’s income is not reported, the reason for not reporting income of the father is to be submitted in the declaration in the prescribed format. Monthly Income certificate will not be considered.
f) Marksheet required for respective courses. It is essential to provide Conversion factor formulae along with marksheet to convert CGPA grade in to percentage.
g) Student ID & Visa Copy in single pdf file (for Joined candidate)
h) Joining letter from university (for Joined candidate)

Selection Process of National Overseas Scholarship Scheme

The candidate short listed by the Screening Committee and the merit list prepared on the basis of assessment of individual student at interview by the Selection Committee. The selected candidates will take admission within the two years after getting award letter. The financial assistance will be provided to the selected candidates as per Ministry guideline
