  1. Dear Sir /Madam

Sundarban and Tiger is the two side of same coin and one can’t be saved without the other. Without the tiger the forest will be denuded in few years bringing ecological disaster and tiger can’t be saved without saving the forest. Destruction of Sundarban and its biodiversity will effect the whole Bengal sea belt and the world. In Sundarban One tiger can guard a large area of forest which can’t be done by hundred of forest guard, for the simple reason that a animal- tiger can’t be bribed where as the man-forest guard can easily be bribed by the wood cutters

33,000 families live in the fringe villages of Sundarban who have nothing to live on and depend fully on collection of small forest produce ie crab, fish, honey ,wood etc. Sundarban is getting damaged due to many reason and one of them is human encroachment to the forest, contributing to the extent of 10% of damage as given in different national and international research papers. A hungry tiger swims two creaks at a time to reach villages in search of food, in the same manner one man enters forest in search of food which can’t be stopped by law or physical force as hunger is stronger.

Sunderban can’t be saved without stopping the human encroachment and human invasion to the forest which can’t be avoided without providing alternative livelihood for the fringe community people. Though there is provision of alternate livelihood in the Forest Right act 2006 we see no chance of this getting implemented in near future. Sunderban Affair Ministry is formed for 20 years and Sunderban affair dept is formed for 40 years but negligible effort is made by the Govt to provide alternate livelihood to the fringe community people till date
Fishing in Sudarban jungle is a very hard work and only the young one in age group of 15- 35 years can bear the strain of work involved. When a man gets killed by tiger he often leaves a young wife and few children forcing the mother to take up the trade within one month of the accident as there is no other means of living. She also gets killed within few years when the children took up the trade. Year passes by; the children grows to man and also gets killed leaving young souse and some children. The cycle repeats over and over again and will continue till some alternate livelihood is available to them for living. The latest victim is Mrs Purnima Bhakta of Paschim Dwarikapur, Patherpratima, South 24 parganas, WB who got killed on 8th Feb 2015 during a crab collection trip. She lost her husband to tiger jaw 7 years back leaving her to feed 3 children. Now their three children son-13 yr, daughter 11 yr and another son 9 years have no means to live except going to forest for crab collection. There are hundred of cases like this in the six blocks – hinglgung, Gosaba, Basanti, Kultoli, Mathurapur II, & Pather pratima. Around Sundarban The killing cycle will continue in future as it is happening now and has happened in past and in the process damage the sundarban and biodiversity
Fringe community people will avoid fishing in Sundarban jungle if some alternate livelihood is organized in their villages. The children are to be taken away from the traditional trade of collection of minor forest produce . It can only be organised if the children are getting proper education for finding other jobs . we solicit your kind help in the matter
