What is National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme?

National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) is to award scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out at class VIII and encourage them to continue the study at secondary stage. Scholarship of Rs. 12000/- per annum per student is awarded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to selected students every year for study in classes from IX to XII Students studying in recognized Govt / Govt Aided/Local Body/Corporate Schools. Last Date of scholarship is 30th November, 2023.

Eligibility of National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme

a) Parents/Guardians’ income from all sources should not exceed Rs.3,50,000/- (Rs. Three lakh Fifty Thousand only) per annum.

b) The students shall have minimum of 55 % marks or equivalent grade in Class VII examination for appearing in selection test for award of scholarship (relax-able by 5% for SC/ST students). The students should be studying as regular student in a Government, Government- aided and local body schools.

c) Mental Ability Test may consist of 90 multiple-choice questions testing verbal and non-verbal meta-cognitive abilities like reasoning and critical thinking. The questions in the test may be on analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern perception, hidden figure etc.

d) Scholastic Aptitude Test may consist of 90 multiple-choice questions covering subjects namely, science, social studies and mathematics as taught in classes VII and VIII.

Requirement Documents of National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship

a) Aadhaar Card.
b) Bank Account (self-account).
c) Income certificate issued by competent authority (up to date).
d) Previous year examination mark sheet.
e) Permanent Residential Certificate (up to date).

How to Apply for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship?

Normally application is open during July- September through online in National Scholarship Portal in https://scholarships.gov.in/. Printout of online application alongwith documents mentioned above must be submitted to the School for verification through online.

Studying Inside Mizoram :
All applicants must print two PDF copy of application after successful online submission and send one printed hard copy to their respective School/College/Institution, along with all documents uploaded in the Portal for verification and retain one copy themselves for future reference.

Studying Outside Mizoram :
Use Fee Receipt OR Institution Verification Certificate for this Academic Year (2023-2024). All applicant must print PDF copy of the application after successful online submission and send printed hard copy to Secretary, Mizoram Scholarship Board, Aizawl Mizoram by Speed Post immediately, along with all documents uploaded in the Portal for verification; failing which application will not be entertained.

Profile Management :
** Applicant should have only one profile where their personal Detail, Address, Bank Account, Academic records are maintained. These records can be updated every year for any change required before subsequent submission of application.
** Scholarship application should be submitted only from personal account. Applicant need not create new account for new submission. Once you create an account on this portal, it is active as long as this portal is active.
** Maintain your account username (Aadhaar number) and password safely and do not share with anyone.

Important Notice :
** For any problem contact 873-007-5005 OR 0389-2954196 during office working hours.
** Applicant must submit correct Bank Account, IFSC & Aadhaar Number of their OWN. Scholarship Board will not be responsible if applicant do not receive scholarship due to submission of incorrect details.
** In case of Mizoram Rural Bank, delete – (hyphen) and joint (concatenate) with next number. Eg: 9700456741-1 (Wrong) / 97004567411 (Right)
** Income Certificate must be upto-date (Issued during 2023-2024 by competent authority only i.e. DC /SDO Sadar/Magistrate etc.)
** All documents uploaded must be original & legible (Xerox copy & illegible document will be rejected).
** Disability: Only BLIND and 100% DISABLE are covered under this scheme.
