UGC Special Scholarship Scheme:

The Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya, would like to bring to the attention of all eligible students regarding the launch of an extremely beneficial Special Scholarship Scheme for North East Region by University Grants Commission (UGC). The number of scholarships is ten thousand every year for the entire region.

This scheme is largely unavailed by the students of Meghalaya compared to neighboring states of Assam, Manipur etc. The Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya encourages our students who are eligible to avail the scholarship which will considerably reduce the financial burden on the parents for educational obligations.

The Salient features of the scholarship are:
1) Who are eligible:
** Students with domicile of NER who have passed Class XII or equivalent exam from a school situated within NER through any recognized Board of Education, including Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), National institute of open Schooling (NIOS) within NER only.
** Students who have secured admissions in general degree courses, technical and professional courses including medical and para-medical courses (Integrated courses included) in Universities/Colleges/Institutions recognized by UGC under Section 2(f) of UGC Act, within and outside the States of NER
** Students whose parents income should not exceed Rs.4.5 lakh per annum

2) Selection Procedure:
** If number of applicants exceed number of scholarships available, then awardees will be selected on the basis of marks scored by them in the Class XII or equivalent exam.

3) What is the scholarship amount:
** INR 3500 per month for General Degree Courses
** INR 5000 per month for Technical & Professional courses (including Medical & Para medical courses)

4) Exclusions:
** Students pursuing courses/programs through Open Universities.
** Students already availing scholarship for pursuing the Undergraduate programme under any other scheme(s).
** Students gaining admission through ‘management quota’.
** Students pursuing courses, such as Diploma Courses, not leading to award of a
** Degree.
** Students whose parents’ income exceeds Rs.4.5 lakh per annum.

5) Mode of transfer:
** All transfers wil be given through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the beneficiary student only.

  1. Have applied for the scholarship and got selected and received the award letter by till date have not received the scholarship amount along with my college-mates. please look into the matter.

  2. Can I get this scholarship although I study in Hyderabad and I am from Manipur?
