Fellowship Programme :

The Fellowship Programme of Azim Premji Foundation aims to give an educational and social sector experience to a diverse range people from a variety of backgrounds.

This rigorous 2-year programme comprises:
** Year 1 would be distributed between – teaching in government schools, immersion in education to develop/ build their perspective along with participation in the activities of the Foundation’s District Institute (DI) where they are placed, to understand the various roles in the DI.

** Year 2 would be focused upon capacity building of the Fellows based upon the role they could possibly contribute in the DI after the Fellowship.

During this period the focus would be to provide opportunities to the Fellows to build an understanding in the area of education through teaching and capacity building in various roles in the DI. They will be actively mentored and will benefit from hands-on experience of working in the field.

Fellows will be posted to some of the least developed districts of rural districts of Karnataka and need to be prepared to live and work in the highly challenging environments that they will encounter there.

You should have 3 to 10 years of work experience, with a post-graduate or a professional degree in any discipline. Knowledge of Kannada is required. We welcome people from a variety of backgrounds. What is important is your willingness to explore the social sector and the desire to contribute.

1. What will I do during the 2 years of fellowship?

** During the first year, you would be introduced to the Education sector and our work in the Field locations. This will be enabled the teaching experiences you undertake in government schools and through interaction with the local community.

** In your second year, you gain specific exposure to identified area of your contribution. This could be through active involvement in the activities and programmes in that area enabling you to develop understanding and deeper ability in that identified role.

2. What kinds of work areas are available during the Fellowship program?
The Fellows at the Field Institute would build their experience teaching in government schools, immersion in education to develop/ build their perspective along with participation in Field institue activities to understand the various roles.

Some of the other areas that the Fellow can actively participate in at the Field Institute during the 2nd year could be as follows:
** Research and Analytics.
** Contribute in documentation, designing publications and establishing external connects.
** Participate in developing modules for Subject Knowledge.

3. Do I need to have any social sector experience to apply?

No, we are inviting people from a variety of backgrounds, who have a passion for enabling social change by improving the quality of education in the public system.

4. Where will I live and work?
Fellows will be based in the District Institutes of Karnataka.

5. Since I will be working in rural India, do I need to know the local language?

Yes, it is very important for the Fellows to be able to converse in the local language. Knowledge of Kannada is required.

6. What support will i receive during the programme?

Each Fellow will have mentors assigned to him / her during the fellowship period. Fellows will receive continuous support from these mentors and from the fellowship team.

7. What opportunities will be available after I complete the programme?

There will be opportunities to work with Azim Premji Foundation after successful completion of two year programme.

8. Will I receive a stipend?

Yes. The stipend amount will be Rs. 27000/- per month (Provident Fund, Medical-Life- Personal Accident Insurance benefits are in addition. Taxes would be deducted as applicable).

On your successful completion of the programme, you may be offered employment opportunities in the Foundation, at an appropriate compensation package in line with the Foundation’s practice.

9. Will there be training before I start work in rural India?

10. Where will the training take place?
The initial 2 weeks induction would be in Bengaluru. The subsequent sessions and the field posting would be in the District Institutes.
