What is DTE Maharashtra’s Foreign Scholarship Program?

Government of Maharashtra under Higher and Technical Education Department (DTE) has started Scholarship for Higher Education at Foreign Countries. Scholarship is reserved for 40 students every year out of which 30 seats for Post-Graduate degree/diploma courses and remaining 10 seats for Doctorate courses under the stream Arts, Commerce, Science, Management, Law, Engineering/Architecture and Pharmacy.

Eligibility of DTE Maharashtra’s Foreign Scholarship

1. The student and the student’s mother/father or guardian should be a citizen of India and domicile of the state of Maharashtra.

2. The student admitted for the Post Graduate degree/diploma course at abroad should have passed the degree examination with at least 55% marks from recognized University in India whereas, the student admitted for Ph.D. course should have passed Post-Graduate degree/diploma examination with minimum 55% marks from recognized University in India.

3. The student should have been admitted abroad to an Educational Institution / University ranked within 200 in the latest QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World Ranking on merit.

4. The Educational Institution / University from abroad should provide Unconditional Offer Letter for admission to respective course.

5. Annual family income Less than Rs. 8 lakhs.

6. Candidates’ age should not exceed 35 years for Master’s degree course and 40 years for Ph.D. course as on 1st July of respective admission year.

Note:
1. It will be Truly Online registration process hence it is admisable to have stable internet connection.
2. During registration process, candidate is not required to upload any kind of document. Photograph is required.
3. Candidate is advised to have mobile device with them during registration process as OTP will be shared on his/her mobile number.
4. Candidate is advised to have own personal email ID with them during registration process as OTP will be shared on his/her email ID.

1. The scheme of scholarship for meritorious boys and girls for higher education abroad is implemented by which department?
This scheme is implemented through the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra.

2. Is it mandatory for the employed candidates to give the no-objection certificate of the organization employer where he is employed?
Yes.

3. Is it mandatory for the student to give surety?
Yes, the student is required to provide two sureties after being selected for the scholarship.

4. Is there an income requirement to apply for the scholarship?
The annual income for the previous financial year (2023-24) of the student’s parents (mother and father)/family and student’s own income if employed by all means Rs. Should not exceed 8.00 lakhs.

5. A Conditional Offer Letter has been received from a foreign educational institution. Will it be accepted?
This scholarship will be admissible only to those students who have received Unconditional Offer Letter from foreign educational institutions, Conditional Offer Letter will not be considered. However, if the offer letter is subject to the condition of educational qualification which is mandatory for admission, it will not be considered.

6. What help will the government provide to get a passport and visa?
It will be the student’s responsibility to obtain the passport and visa.

7. If the student or parents or both are employed, what income related documents need to be submitted to apply for the scholarship?
If the student or parent or both are employed, their Income Tax Return, Form no. 16th Certificate of income from all sources of the family for the previous financial year (from 2023-24) from the competent authority (not below the rank of Tehsildar or Naib Tehsildar).

8. If the student is not employed, what documents related to income need to be submitted?
Income certificate of the family from all sources for the previous financial year (from 2023-24) from the competent authority (not below the rank of Tehsildar or Naib Tehsildar).

9. Can backward category students apply for this scheme?
Yes, but backward category students for whom foreign scholarship of this nature has been implemented are expected to apply in the scheme of the respective administrative department. Therefore all other students except the students belonging to various backward categories who are eligible to apply for foreign scholarship scheme of other administrative department can apply for this scheme.

10. How can a student admitted in the current academic year apply for the scholarship?
For this, the student should fill the online application form and take a print of it and send it to the authorized person. The application and documents can be submitted to the Divisional Joint Director, Technical Education / Higher Education through an authorized person.
