Fellowship in Biostatistics:
Modern medical research involves increasingly sophisticated statistical tools and computerized systems for data management and analysis. There is an acute shortage of trained manpower to take up this challenge and to bridge the gap between statistical practice and biomedical research. This fellowship program has been designed to train young statisticians in the area of biostatistics. It is of three-year duration. Openings for two candidates are available during January and July each year.
Eligibility:
Candidates with M Stat, M.Sc ( Biostatistics/Statistics/Applied Statistics) or MCA (Master of Computer Application) degree with statistics or mathematics at graduate level are eligible. Awards are made through a written test and personal interview. NET or GATE qualified candidates are exempted from written test.
Training format :
Training is delivered in the form of lectures and computer laboratory sessions. The fellows are supposed to work under the supervision of a faculty member in the Department of Biostatistics. Training includes orientation to health care system, basic epidemiology and medical terminology, computer programming, extensive training in statistical computing , use of statistics packages like SAS, SPSS, SPLUS, etc., application of advanced statistical methods in medical research, working out problems coming form other specialties for statistical consultancy and advice, development of study design and protocol for hospital and community based studies and use of statistical methods for health care evaluation.
