The Scheme provides for financial assistance to patients, living below poverty line and who is suffering from major life threatening diseases, to receive medical treatment at any of the super specialty Government hospitals / institutes.

Type of benefits:
Financial assistance towards treatment in Government hospitals including super specialty Government hospitals / institutes, as per guidelines.
How to avail benefits:
To avail financial assistance under RAN, the patient is required to submit :
** Application form in prescribed proforma duly signed by the treating doctor and countersigned by the Medical Superintendent of the Government hospital/institute.
** Copy of the income certificate.
** Copy of the ration card.
** Revolving Funds have been set up in 12 Central Government Hospitals/Institutes and funds upto Rs. 50 lakhs are placed at their disposal for providing treatment upto Rs. 2 lakh in each case.
** Cases involving treatment beyond 2 lakh are referred to Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India for providing funds.
Eligibility for Assistance under RAN:
(i) Only for persons below the poverty line suffering from specified life threatening disease.
(ii) Assistance admissible for treatment in Government Hospital only.
(iii) Central Government/State Government/PSU employees not eligible.
(iv) Re-imbursement of Medical Expenditure already incurred by the patient shall not be permissible.
(v) Diseases of common nature and disease for which treatment is available free of cost under other health programmes/schemes are not eligible for grant.
(vi) Patient taking treatment in his/her State should preferentially avail assistance from State Illness Fund (where such fund has been set up) provided medical estimate does not exceed Rs. 1.50 lakh.
(vii) Cases of estimates above Rs.1.50 lakh to be referred by States for assistance from Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (Central Fund) of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare
Procedure for submission of application for availing of Assistance :
1. Procedure for submission of application for availing of Assistance under RAN is at Annexure-II.
2. The details of patients to whom financial assistance has been provided in 2015-16 is given at Annexure-III.
3. The details of funds released to hospitals/institutions to whom revolving fund has been provided in the year 2015-16 is at Annexure-IV.
4. The details of funds released to States/UTs under the scheme is at Annexure-V.
5. State wise income criteria based on Poverty Lines for Rural and Urban Areas for purposes of assistance under RAN w.e.f 1.7.16 is at Annexure-VI.
